History of the Goodwood Revival

The Goodwood Revival is one of the most anticipated events in the motorsport calendar, drawing in crowds from all over the world. Taking place each year in September at the historic Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex, England, the Revival brings a vintage motorsport experience unlike any other. Originally launched in 1998 by the Duke of Richmond, this event celebrates the golden era of racing, from 1948 to 1966, reviving both the cars and the spirit of competition that once dominated the track.

For vintage enthusiasts, the Goodwood Revival is a must-attend event. With attendees dressing in styles ranging from the 1920s to the 1980s, it offers a truly engaging experience. 

The Goodwood Circuit itself has its own storied history, opening in 1948 on the grounds of a former World War II airfield, RAF Westhampnett. It quickly became one of the UK’s most iconic racing venues before closing to competitive events in 1966 due to safety concerns. The Revival, however, reignited the passion for historic motorsport by recreating the atmosphere of the past and inviting drivers to race on the very same circuit once more.

What sets the Goodwood Revival apart from other events is its immersive experience. The circuit is restored to its former glory, with only cars from the 1948–1966 era allowed to compete. Spectators are encouraged to step into history, with many dressing in vintage attire from the 1920s to the 1980s.
