Players Step Back In Time at Revival Golf Challenge

Spectators at the Downs course at Goodwood on Friday, 12th September, could be forgiven for thinking they had stepped back in time. Players, dressed in authentic vintage golf attire, took on the famous James Braid-designed course armed with traditional Hickory clubs.

Now celebrating its tenth year, the Revival Golf Challenge is played in Stableford format. Each competitor uses a complete set of Hickory-shafted clubs—kindly provided by South of England Hickory Golf—including mashies, jiggers, brassies, spoons, and niblicks. The period feel is enhanced further by players’ outfits, with many choosing to wear Oldfield Outfitters’ clothing for the occasion.

Adding to the sense of nostalgia are Spitfire fly-pasts and the unmistakable roar of engines from the nearby Motor Circuit—reminders of Goodwood’s broader Revival festivities. It’s easy to see why this event is such a highlight, blending golf seamlessly into the wider celebration across the Estate.

We were delighted to be part of the day, showcasing our collection of vintage clothing and fully embracing the spirit of a bygone era in which we are so deeply rooted.

Feel free to contact The South of England Hickory Golf Company with any questions relating to or to hire hickory golf clubs.
