Benjamin Finnigan established the company in Manchester and although the exact date of formation is not known, an advert of 1920 noted that they were nearly 100 years sold. The business was run by succeeding generations of the family and had various addresses in Manchester, probably starting at 11 Market Street before progressing to the large shop at 123 Deansgate and another at 115 Market Street. This leather case has a large central brass lock. The handle is attached to the case by 2 large brass D rings. The case has been relined in leather. The back seam has been re-inforced with extra leather and the front handle ears have been replaced. The initals H.G.D are embossed both ends of the case. The makers mark is stamped on the lid at both ends; it reads FINNIGAN MAKER MANCHESTER.
